Vanessa Dame is a German-U.S. American bilingual poet and writer. After graduating from the Institute for Foreign Languages and Cultural Studies at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, she initially pursued a different career path. During an extended stay in Dublin, Ireland, her poetic voice began to take shape, and she started publishing her work.

An old-school sad girl and lifelong lover of the fine arts, Vanessa is drawn to work that refuses to apologize for emotional excess — yearning, obsession, grief, desire, darkness and all the beautiful bad decisions in between. She founded Sad Girl Zine to give those feelings the artistic space they deserve, and to explore what the sad girl can become beyond the aesthetic that made her famous.
